Vi fick ett brev där frågeställaren ställde sig undrande till varför vi stängt de två toaletter som finns längst inne i biblioteket(mot Djulögatan). Kulturhuset Ängeln med bibliotek och konsthall finns på en vidsträckt yta med toaletter på tre platser. Under årens lopp har Djulögats toaletterna (de ligger undanskymt) använts till både det ena och det andra. Jag skall bespara er detaljerna, men det var ofta de var tämligen nedsnuskade och minst sagt oaptitliga att besöka. Vi beslutade därför att stänga dessa och fortsättningsvis enbart använda toalettererna på övriga platser i huset.
Toaletter i offentliga lokaler, inte minst bibliotek, är en ständig källa till irritation Det finns många, inte alltid roliga, historier att berätta. T.ex. hur mycket toalettpapper som stäljs (mkt vill jag lova). Eller tvål. Ja, t.o.m. flytande tvål. Det är nästan så att man tror att det är systematiska stölder av våra offentliga hygienartiklar. Och nej, vi har inte mynttoaletter, eftersom det ofta leder till att låsen slås sönder för att komma åt de få kronor som finns inuti. Nyckel i disken? Aldrig i livet. Det är inget personalen skall syssla med. Lockar offentliga toaletter till ett annat beteende än det man tillämpar på sina hemtoaletter?

SvaraRaderaAlso, some person in the community recently suggested a Science, Math, and Technology blog created through your library to highlight books and media available at your facility. Could you please consider also creating a YouTube site for the library as well? You could film author lectures, guided tours of Kulturhuset Ängel exhibits (uploaded on the day after an exhibit closes in case folks didn't have the opportunity to see an exhibit), and books read aloud by librarians (example: the children librarians should create read aloud videos for Katrineholm's children). You could even answer questions from the public via YouTube. Given YouTube capacity for subtitles beneath videos, people can read text as you give your presentation and can respond with videos of their own.
Lastly, I suggest that surveys should be stored online (try box.net or scrib.com) and distributed through library blogs for download by the public so they can read your (bi-annual?) surveys about library service send them in via e-mail. In fact, why not put surveys online with check boxes and room for typed responses and do away with paper unless, of course, the "Luddites" need to use (waste?) paper.
En egen YouTubekanal för biblioteket/kulturhuset finns sedan länge med i våra planer. Förhoppningsvis kommer det att realiseras under våren 2011.
